The 3rd Sunday in September is the day anyone with a wife must worship her all day long: It’s Wife Appreciation Day!

And it’s about time, given that Husband Appreciation Day was way back in April!

We don’t know who started this day … Probably a husband trying to get out of the doghouse (although there’s actually a separate day for that: National Get Out of the Doghouse Day in July).

There’s also some suggestions that it may have been created to honor wives who aren’t mothers. Since they don’t get to celebrate Mother’s Day, someone decided they needed their own day.

But it really doesn’t matter who created it or why. You know you appreciate your wife, even if you don’t always show it. And even if she drives you crazy sometimes.

So we celebrate wives every year on the third Sunday in September. Some calendars apparently put it on the 3rd Saturday. If you really want to earn points, celebrate it both days for a Wife Appreciation Weekend!

What Does Your Wife Do That You Appreciate?

Does she do any of these things?

  • Tie your tie
  • Straighten your tie
  • Wash, fold and put away your laundry (matching the socks, even!)
  • Make sure there’s always a cold beer in the ‘fridge
  • Cook you dinner most nights (if she cooks every night, you’ve got an angel)
  • Gets the kids up, fed and out the door every morning (on time! … That’s efficiency at work)
  • Love you even when you make a gigantic mess
  • Clean up that gigantic mess
  • Let you have your “guy space/time” (without complaints!)
  • Keep the house clean
  • Support you in whatever you do
  • Help you with your projects

If she does even one of these things, then appreciate her for it! If she does most of them, then bow down and kiss the ground she walks on (kidding! … Mostly).

Ideas For Celebrating Wife Appreciation Day

Show your wife how much you appreciate all she does with a day of her favorite things (you do know what those are. Right?).

Depending on what she likes:

  • Flowers
  • A day at the spa
  • Chocolate
  • An evening out at a show
  • A romantic dinner
  • Jewelry
  • Breakfast in bed
  • Cook her dinner (assuming you can cook!)
  • Wash and wax her car
  • Watch old home videos and get nostalgic
  • Let her pick the movie(s) for the night
  • A whole weekend away ( you know, for the Wife Appreciation Weekend option)

Or you might help with some of the chores she normally does. Check the list above for some ideas.

Of course, you know your wife better than we do, so the final gift choice is up to you.

So. What did you decide to do for your wife on Wife Appreciation Day?

  1. […] Wife Appreciation Day: For this day anyone with a wife must show her appreciation all day. If she happens to love guacamole, consider making her some & celebrating National Guacamole Day with her. Plan a few other things too, just in case guacamole isn’t quite enough appreciation … 😉 […]

  2. […] Wife Appreciation Day: Appreciate your wife. And make sure she knows it. That is all. […]
