It’s International Enthusiasm Week all week!

Can you sustain enthusiasm for a whole week? You can if you’re working on something you love. Something you’re already enthusiastic about.

But wait … If you’re already enthusiastic about something, why do you need a celebration week to remind you of it?

Well, we really couldn’t find too much information about this week. No clue as to who started it or why.

So we’re not too sure what it is really supposed to be about.

Which means we’re also not sure if you’re supposed to be spending it being enthusiastic or looking for what makes you enthusiastic. Or maybe trying to find enthusiasm for at least some part of everything you do.

So we’ll just leave it up to you. Enthusiastically, of course!

How to Celebrate International Enthusiasm Week

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Clearly you’re just going to have to celebrate with enthusiasm and achieve great things.

How can you achieve great things in just a week?

Well, it depends on the achievement we suppose. But even if you can’t finish a great achievement during International Enthusiasm Week, you can certainly get started.

So here are some ideas:

  • If there’s something you’re enthusiastic about but you haven’t had time to spend on it lately, make it your priority this week.
  • For things you have to do but don’t like to do, try to find some aspect of the task you can be enthusiastic about. Even if it’s just a sense of accomplishment for finishing it! (That could be motivation to get it done quickly so you can feel that satisfaction).
  • Set aside time to figure out what you’re enthusiastic about. Yes, sometimes you may need to think about it. When you spend too much time being unenthusiastic, you can forget what it is that really makes you happy.

You could also help family and friends be enthusiastic. Help them figure out what they’re enthusiastic about and how to find more time to do those things.

Obviously this isn’t going to work for everyone. Some people are bound and determined not to find anything to be enthusiastic about. And others are going through things that make it hard to find enthusiasm for anything. Trying to be a cheerleader in these situations can backfire. But you can still be enthusiastic in your support of those people.

And remember, true enthusiasm is genuine. It’s not some sort of “happy, happy” or bubbly front you put on. Sure sometimes faking it for a short time can actually help you feel it. Just don’t get so good at faking it that you forget to be truly enthusiastic! If you don’t start feeling it, move on.

So what are you enthusiastic about? Do you have any tricks for finding enthusiasm when you’re not initially feeling it?

  2. […] International Enthusiasm Week (September 1 – 7, 2020): Enthusiasm seems to be in shorter supply than usual this year. Which is completely understandable! But enthusiasm is also important. It helps us get things done! So find something you’re enthusiastic about and do it. Or find something about your must-do’s to be enthusiastic about, so you can hopefully feel better about doing them.
