Celebrate All July Long

The summer heat is truly here. So take care of yourself, and be careful with the outdoor fun, especially during mid-day. Picnics are an easy way to be outdoors without overdoing it!

Beautifying your wheelchair & supporting independent retailers are also unlikely to cause overheating. 🥵 🙂

National Wheelchair Beautification Month: People in wheelchairs are still people, and shouldn’t their rides reflect their personalities? So whether it’s you or someone you know who gets around in a chair, use this month to deck it out!

Self Care Month: This month actually started on June 24 and runs to July 24, but the actual dates are less important than what you do with them. So use these weeks to get a handle on taking care of yourself physically and mentally.

Picnic Month: Have picnics whenever possible all month long. After all, you want to spend as much time enjoying the outdoors as possible, rigth? And of course you still need to eat. So combine those things! And of course, have those picnics with your favorite people. The company is a big part of the enjoyment.

Independent Retailer Month: Independent retailers have always needed your support. But you know those who have survived this past year need it more than ever. So shop local whenever you can all during July. And since you’re no doubt going to discover some new favorites during the month, pledge to keep shopping there as much as possible.

Dog Days (July 3 – August 11): The “dog days” of summer are here! Do your best to stay cool. And learn a bit about how these weeks came to be called that.

Weekly Celebrations for July 5 to 11

After celebrating hard for the 4th, you might need to unwind from your holiday! Would getting naked help? 😮 😇 And while you’re feeling nice & mellow, try being nice to New Jersey?

Nude Recreation Week (July 5 – 11, 2021): It’s hot out there! Wouldn’t you be more comfortable without all that clothes? This is your week to try it out! Start slow by just baring all in your own yard. Or take the plunge & head to a nudist resort or beach. Read about the world of nude recreation to help you feel more comfortable before you go.

Be Nice to Jersey Week (July 4 – 10, 2021): For some reason poking fun at New Jersey has become a thing. Actually it’s been a thing for a long time now. But for the first full week of July we put the Jersey jokes on hold and be nice. Maybe even find positive things to say about the state?

Celebration Days coming up for July 5 thru July 11

With the 4th on a Sunday, a lot of us get the 5th off! Which means we get a day to recover from the partying … or an extra day to party, depending on how you look at it. However you spend that day, do it in your bikini. 😉

Then, as we return to real life we get to try forgiving & truth telling. Along with unplugging from drama & taking pictures of our pets.

Plus lots of good food & drink to make it yet another fun-tastic week …

July 5:

Bikini Day: Put on your bikini! And preferably wear it to the beach or pool, not just around the house.

National Workaholics Day: This day reminds us that work is not life. It is just one part of life. And we must remember to make time for ourselves & our families. This is especially important for anyone still working from home, as the line between work and home has become nearly nonexistent.

National Graham Cracker Day: Snack on graham crackers! Or make a pie with a graham cracker crust, like this cheesecake! Or maybe s’mores? Then there’s graham cracker toffee. Or graham cracker cookies. So many ideas for a humble box of graham crackers!

National Apple Turnover Day: Don’t fill up on graham crackers, though. You’re going to want to leave room for an apple turnover or two. And of course, if you can, make your apple turnovers from scratch. Share them if you’re feeling generous.

July 6:

National Fried Chicken Day: Have your favorite fried chicken. Whether that’s homemade or from a restaurant is up to you.

Take Your Webmaster to Lunch Day: You know good webmasters are worth their weight in gold! So take your amazing webmaster out to lunch to show your undying appreciation.

International Kissing Day: Pucker up! Give your significant other an extra kiss the morning of the 6th. In previous years communities have held actual kissing events, but of course the pandemic sort of put those kinds of things on hold. So just celebrate however you feel most comfortable.

National Hand Roll Day: Did you miss the 2nd annual National Hand Roll Day last year? With most restaurants closed or with very limited capacity last July you probably did. Unless you made hand rolls yourself! But this year let’s head out to our favorite sushi places to indulge in our favorite hand rolls. Or try some new varieties. Mmmm …

July 7:

Global Forgiveness Day: For this day we forgive. Yes, even the unforgivable. Because forgiving doesn’t have to mean forgetting. And forgiving let’s you move on and be happy instead of being stuck in the past.

National Father-Daughter Take a Walk Day: This is a day for fathers and daughters to bond over the simple act of taking a walk. Whether it’s a walk around the block or a stroll (or hike!) in a park or forest preserve doesn’t matter. It’s spending time together that counts. And maybe even having time for a real conversation if you’d like.

Tell the Truth Day: Do like the day’s name says and tell the truth. And only the truth! Even if it’s hard … especially if it’s hard. Just remember that telling the truth shouldn’t be an excuse to be unkind. If the truth is something that may hurt, you can still tell it kindly.

National Dive Bar Day: If you have a favorite dive bar that survived the past year, head out to show your love. Dive bars often get a bad rap, but the atmosphere is fun & friendly. And there’s usually at least one menu item that’s the best around. Dive bars deserve to survive, so let’s make sure they do!

National Macaroni Day: Dinner is simple when you start with macaroni! And it doesn’t have to be mac & cheese. Although it certainly could be I you’d like. Here are some other macaroni recipe ideas for you.

National Strawberry Sundae Day: Make dessert a strawberry sundae to celebrate this day!

World Chocolate Day: Top your strawberry sundae with chocolate for a two-fer celebration. Use chocolate sauce, chunks, shaved ribbons, or whatever you like. Just as long as it’s chocolate!

July 8:

SCUD Day: Savor the Comic, Unplug the Drama … In other words, have a fun, drama-free day. This may not end up being as simple as it sounds. But if you avoid other people’s drama—or at least avoid feeding it!—and simply find enjoyment wherever you can, you should be well on your way to celebrating right.

National Video Game Day: Gamers, here’s you official excuse to spend the day playing your favorite video games! Not that you really need one, but if you’re getting grief from those who just don’t understand, just tell them you’re celebrating!

Coca-Cola Day: Celebrate John Pemberton’s birthday by enjoy his delicious invention: Coca-Cola! You’re welcome.

National Freezer Pop Day: Cool off on a hot July day with a freezer pop or two. Or ten.

National Chocolate with Almonds Day: Chocolate is good for you and so are almonds. So indulge in this delectable combination for your health! Your taste buds will thank you too. Enjoy them in a simple chocolate bar or create brownies, cheesecake, or another nutty, chocolaty delight for this celebration.

July 9:

National Sugar Cookie Day: Make and eat sugar cookies. Or buy & eat sugar cookies. If you already have sugar cookies in the house, even better. Rip into that package & enjoy!

Collector Car Appreciation Day: Are you a collector car fan? Whether you collect & restore classic cars yourself or just enjoy seeing what others have done, this day is for you. See if there are any CCAD events near you. If not, consider one of the virtual events listed. Or host a gathering yourself. If you have a collector car, take it out for a drive.

National Motorcycle Day: Celebrate the motorcycle and motorcycle riders. Despite the sometimes negative perceptions of bikers, they actually do a lot of good for their communities. Dairyland Insurance founded this day to showcase the positives of motorcycle culture.

National No Bra Day: If you can, skip the bra! If you can’t, then wear something purple in support.

July 10:

Don’t Step on a Bee Day: Watch where you step! Especially if you’re barefoot. You don’t want to step on a bee and get stung! On the flip side, you don’t want to squish a poor little bee, either. They’re incredibly useful and don’t deserve to be stepped on.

National Kitten Day: Love all the kittens! As if you don’t do that already. 😊 But for this day your kitten gets lots of extra attention & treats. And maybe even a new toy? Or another kitten buddy. If you’ve been thinking about adding a new feline to your family this is the perfect day to do it. If you can’t have a kitten of your own, consider volunteering at a shelter to help with their kittens.

National Clerihew Day: We’ve always thought “clerihew” sounds like the name of an instrument. But it’s not! It’s a kind of poem. But not a stuffy, boring poem! Oh, no. These poems are about people, often famous people. And they poke lighthearted fun in rhyme. Edmund Clerihew Bentley created this style of poem, and we celebrate it on his birthday.

Global Energy Independence Day: Celebrate Nikola Tesla’s birthday by promoting free energy use. And encouraging the development of alternative energy infrastructure and technologies.

US Energy Independence Day: And of course, Americans being Americans, we must have our own Energy Independence day in parallel with the global celebration (never mind that the global day originated right here in the US). So let us also continue to promote eliminating any need for foreign fossil fuels.

National Piña Colada Day: Celebrate Saturday with a refreshing coconut-pineapple drink. Enjoy it on the beach if you can. If not, close your eyes and imagine the sand & surf.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day: What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than by having a picnic? And with your teddy bears to boot! … Errr … with our kids & their teddy bears to boot! Ok, who are we kidding, obviously if you have kids you’ll celebrate with them & their teddy bears. But if you don’t, celebrate anyway. Because you’re never too old to spend time with your teddy bears!

July 11:

Bowdler’s Day: For this day we celebrate—or more accurately, shake our heads about—the removal of certain words and situations someone found offensive—or unsuitable for children or women—in a variety of written works. Including Shakespeare and the Bible!

National Cheer Up the Lonely Day: We all get lonely sometimes. And this past year has been especially hard for people who live alone or already had limited interactions with people. For most of us things are getting better. But those who were often lonely before the pandemic are probably even more so now. If you know someone who doesn’t get out much, find a way to brighten their day.

All American Pet Photo Day: Here’s your excuse to take more pictures of your pet and then share them!

National Mojito Day: Wind down your weekend with a sparkling, minty mojito! As long as you have fresh mint leaves, you can make yourself a killer mojito.

National Rainier Cherry Day: Ranier cherries are a delicate little fruit, hard to grow and needing to be hand picked. But the effort is worth it because they’re amazingly delicious! So enjoy some to celebrate this day.

Make Your Own Sundae Day: Have a decadent sundae on this Sunday. Make it exactly as you love it. And maybe use a Rainier cherry on top?

National Blueberry Muffin Day: Blueberry muffins make a fabulous start to the day. Or a satisfying snack any time. So bake a batch of fluffy blueberry muffins and enjoy. If you’re feeling generous, share your creations.
