Celebration Ideas for November 15 – 21, 2021

It’s snowing!

Yes, right at this moment there’s white stuff falling from the sky. And blowing around wildly.

We’re just not ready for that!

But we are ready to celebrate Georgia pecans, split pea soup, and homemade bread. Along with recycling, tolerance, and absurdity. Plus much more of course.

Won’t you join us? Go ahead, take a peek and plan your week. And as always, remember to …

Enjoy! (even when there’s snow you’re not quite ready for 😬)

Celebrate All November Long

So much good food! Better get cooking, baking, and (most importantly!) eating.

Banana Pudding Lovers Month: Make and enjoy banana pudding in all its glory this month. Now, if you’re confused by how banana pudding can be glorious, well you’re probably just eating the banana-flavored custardy stuff by itself instead of adding vanilla wafers, banana slices, and meringue or whipped cream. So try the latter & discover the gloriousness of banana pudding.

National Georgia Pecan Month: Check the labels on your pecans! Only Georgia pecans allowed for this month. Make the best pecan pie ever with Georgia pecans. Top salads, coat chicken, add crunch to cookies. So many ways to enjoy these delectable nuts! Just remember: pecans from Georgia only.

National Peanut Butter Lovers Month: Cook with it. Bake with it. Eat it by the spoonful. Make it homemade. If you love peanut butter this month’s for you. Of course, true peanut butter lovers do all of the above on a regular basis. But this is the month to do at least one of them each and every day. Don’t forget to celebrate Peanut Butter Fudge Day on the 20th. Oh, and make sandwiches with it too!

Sweet Potato Awareness Month: Sweet potatoes are amazing, and if you’re not aware of them you should be! Also, what rock have you been hiding under??! These root veggies are ridiculously versatile, going from entree to side, and even dessert with ease. They’re nutritious too, full of fiber and vitamins A & C. Plus they’re fat-free. So start your day with some sweet potato pancakes, then make sweet potato quesadillas for lunch, and a sweet potato curry for dinner. And don’t forget dessert: sweet potato pie!

Weekly Celebrations for November’s 3rd Week

Fight fraud while wearing moccasins & eating split pea soup?

International Fraud Awareness Week (November 14 – 20, 2021): Learn to recognize and combat fraud everywhere for this week. And even if you already do a good job recognizing fraudulent emails, texts, phone calls, etc., don’t assume you know it all. Scammers are persistent, and they come up with new ways to trick you all the time.

National Split Pea Soup Week (November 14 – 20, 2021): Make a big pot of split pea soup & enjoy it all week!

Rock Your Mocs Week (November 14 – 20, 2021): Celebrate indigenous peoples everywhere by wearing moccasins. Share the moc love on social media using #ROCKYOURMOCS.

Celebration Days coming up for Nov. 15 thru Nov. 21

Recycle, unfriend, and buy American made. Clean out your refrigerator, wish everyone a bad day, and take a hike. All while enjoying homemade bread, vichyssoise, and peanut butter fudge.

What does your fun-tastic week look like?

November 15:

National Philanthropy Day: Celebrate the good philanthropy does for communities and honor those who give their time and/or money to help solve problems and make a lasting impact on the world. If you can, consider being one of those people.

America Recycles Day: Do you recycle? If you do, good for you! But we bet you can do even better, so why not learn how? If you don’t, celebrate this day by learning why you should & how to start. And everybody can help others learn about the benefits of recycling.

Steve Irwin Day: Remember and honor the Crocodile Hunter and his contributions to conservation. And consider supporting the Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Warriors in Steve’s honor.

National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day: Do like the day’s name says and clear out the old food from the back of the fridge, and wipe down shelves, drawers, and walls. Then put only the good stuff back. And do it in a way that let’s you actually find and use what you have before it goes bad! Now you’ll be ready for all those holiday leftovers.

National Bundt Day: Make dessert a bundt cake! Of course, you can also buy yourself a bundt cake to enjoy. The important part is the eating!

National Spicy Hermit Cookie Day: Enjoy the warm taste of fall (no, not pumpkin spice! Although the spice blend is similar) in a cookie. Make Old-Fashioned Hermits yourself if you can.

National Raisin Bran Cereal Day: Start your day and week off right with a bowl of raisin bran cereal.

November 16:

National Button Day: Start a button collection! Or learn about button collecting. Not into collecting things just because? Look at the fun crafts you can make with buttons. We bet you can find more, too. Then start your buttons-for-crafts collection.

International Day for Tolerance: Celebrate tolerance by learning about other cultures and trying to understand them instead of dismissing them (or worse, hating them) just because they’re different.

National Fast Food Day: Hit the drive-thru on your way home for a quick meal from your favorite fast food place. Or grab family & friends and “dine in”.

November 17:

National Take a Hike Day: Head out to your favorite forest preserve or other outdoor adventure area and take a hike! Or plan a trip around hiking. Don’t like hiking? Call it exploring instead and see how quickly you discover you enjoy it!

Guinness World Records Day: What world record is your favorite? Share it in honor of this day. And maybe think about what kind of record you could set (or break) … then apply to Guinness World Records to try to do it!

National Unfriend Day: How many of those Facebook “friends” are really friends? Do you even know more than a third of them? Or are they friends of friends or people who play (or more likely played) the same game(s) as you? If you have nothing in common with these people any more (if you ever did) it’s time to slim down that friends list. Jimmy Kimmel says it’s ok!

National Butter Day: Mmmm … butter. It really does make just about everything taste better. Celebrate the very first Butter Day by baking with it, cooking with it, and slathering it on a piece of toast.

National Homemade Bread Day: You know what goes perfectly with homemade bread fresh out of the oven? Butter! Celebrate 2 days in one by making your favorite homemade bread and enjoying it, still warm, with some butter.

National Baklava Day: And you can’t make good baklava without good butter! Homemade baklava, homemade bread, all kinds of buttery goodness … what a perfect day! (And you deserve all this goodness after that hike)

November 18:

Married to a Scorpio Support Day: Apparently Scorpios can be difficult to be married to. So if you’re married to one, we all support you!

Push-button Phone Day: Celebrate the anniversary of the very first push-button phone, presented to the public on this date in 1963. It was quite a big improvement from the rotary phone! If you still have a land-line the phone connected to it is probably some version of a push-button phone. So use it to celebrate.

National Apple Cider Day: A chilly mid-November day is the perfect day for hot apple cider! But don’t just microwave a cup of cider & call it a day. No, create a delicious drink while also making the whole house smell amazing; get this crockpot hot apple cider going a couple of hours before you’re ready to enjoy it. If you prefer an adult version of cider, consider these ideas for spiking your cider.

National Vichyssoise Day: We’ve always found it baffling to celebrate a cold soup on a cold day (and a cold day is very, very, very likely around here in November!), but here we are. And it’s potatoes & leeks, so it must be celebrated! Besides, there’s no rule that says you can’t eat it warm. Which is apparently just what The Foodie Patootie did.

November 19:

Have a Bad Day Day: Do you get tired of constantly being commanded to “have a good day!”? And weary of wishing others a nice day too? Well, this one’s for you! Wish everyone a bad day. And have a bad yourself, too. 😉 You can thank Tom & Ruth Roy of Wellcat for this irreverent day.

American Made Matters Day: It’s not always easy to find the thing you need (or want!) in an American-made version. But buying American-made helps support job creation and, by extension, economic growth in the US. So for at least this one day, make a real effort to buy at least one thing made in America. It might turn out to be easier than you think! And you just might be inspired to check the tags on everything for that “Made in USA” label.

World Toilet Day: Celebrate your toilet and all it does to keep your home and water supply clean and safe. Why celebrate your toilet? Because 3.6 billion people in this world only wish they had this basic sanitation measure. And some 2 billion are faced with drinking water contaminated with the waste they can’t safely dispose of. So yes, celebrate your toilet. And add your voice to the campaign to ensure everyone everywhere has access to a toilet by 2030.

National Play Monopoly Day: If you missed the Nov. 5 Play Monopoly Day (or even if you didn’t), here’s another chance! That day celebrated Parker Brothers’ introduction of the game to the public. We’re not sure why this one exists, but it does seem to be the more popular of the two. So if you love Monopoly, make sure you play!

National Carbonated Beverage With Caffeine Day: For this day we quench our thirsts with pop/soda/soda pop/soft drinks/whatever else you may call these fizzy drinks. But only the ones with caffeine! So colas & Mountain Dew are allowed. Sprite & 7 Up not so much.

November 20:

Name Your PC Day: Apparently the Roys, after enjoying their supremely bad day on the 19th, decided to have a better day on the 20th & help their PC have one too. After all, how can any poor little ‘puter have a good day without a proper name? Help yours enjoy the day too.

National Absurdity Day: Naming your PC not absurd enough for you? Celebrate all the absurd things! Learn about the absurd things in history (I’ll take “mailing children” for 600, Alex). And reminisce about the absurd things that have happened in your life, too.

World Day of Prayer and Action for Children: This day is about ensuring children’s well-being everywhere. This year’s event focuses on understanding how the COVID pandemic has affected kids’ social, mental, & emotional well-being and helping them recover.

National Peanut Butter Fudge Day: Enjoy a luscious piece of peanut butter fudge for dessert or a snack. It’s so simple to make you absolutely must make your peanut butter fudge to make this celebration complete.

November 21:

World Hello Day: Say hello to 10 people for this day. Yes, it really is that simple! Although the reason for the day is less simple. The idea is to promote peace with communication rather than force. A simple hello can open the door to dialogue. And hopefully, eventually agreement. Or at least understanding.

World Television Day: The invention of television suddenly made the world a smaller place, bringing news and events from far away right into people’s homes. And its pictures made events more real than radio ever could. And for this day we celebrate the way this device has symbolized global communication and brought major global issues into focus for viewers. Even today, when we may be watching on our phones or computers, we’re still watching television programming.

National Stuffing Day: Why is this day not on the same day as Thanksgiving, when stuffing is on the menu everywhere? We’re not sure! But maybe it’s because this mouth-watering side is too good to let it get lost in the bustle of a major holiday. It deserves its very own day! Besides, you can use this day to practice & perfect the stuffing you’ll be making for this year’s feast. If you make the same stuffing every year, you can either use this day to try something new or as an excuse to enjoy the savory goodness of stuffing without all the pressure of the Thanksgiving meal.

National Gingerbread Cookie Day: Along with hellos, hand out gingerbread cookies for the day! Talk about promoting peace. Who can fight with a mouth full of gingerbread? You will, of course, want to make them homemade gingerbread cookies.
