And as always …

Celebrate for the rest of February

For February we warm our mornings with hot breakfast, think about the air we’re breathing, and expect nothing less than success. Sounds like a productive month!

National Care About Your Indoor Air Month: During the winter months, when our homes are closed up tight, it’s more important than ever to care about the quality of our indoor air. Why? Zehnder America suggests these reasons to care.

National Hot Breakfast Month: Cold winter months are just made for hot breakfasts. What better way to get yourself warmed up & ready to start your day? So for the rest of February take the time to make a hot breakfast every morning. Oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, toast with your favorite nut butter. They all count! And they’re all delicious. So make your favorite hot breakfasts & try something new, too.

International Expect Success Month: No self-defeating expectations for you this month! Look deep within you and find your personal recipe for success. Yes, you can do it. And you will!

Weekly Celebrations for Feb. 18 – Feb. 24

This week celebrates kindness, entrepreneurship, and agricultural education. All things that can keep our crazy world a little saner and on the right path.

Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 18 – 22): Every so often the inspirational quote “It costs nothing to be kind” pops up in my social media feeds. And it’s true! (Well, unless you choose to do a kind act that costs money. But that’s different). So for a whole week think of ways to be kind … and then do it. Do it for friends, for family, and for strangers. Maybe especially for strangers, because they expect it less, and so it may just mean that much more.

National Entrepreneurship Week: This week is for entrepreneurs, both current and future. And for anyone who knows and supports an entrepreneur. Learn about the amazing things entrepreneurs are doing right now all across the country. Also learn about what it takes to be an entrepreneur, where to find support, and more.

National FFA Week (February 16 – 23): Celebrate how agricultural education keeps making all our lives better.

And at the end of the week we begin National Justice for Animals Week (Feb. 24 – March 2). Animals can’t report cruelty, ask for help, or fight for justice. We must do that for them!

Celebration Days coming up for Feb. 18 thru Feb. 24

For this week we celebrate Pluto (the planet. Yes, planet), eyelashes, and tile. We drink wine (twice!), eat cherry pie, and savor chocolate mint. We also honor women veterans, love our pets, and more.

So what are you waiting for? Get ready for another fun-tastic week!

February 18:

National Drink Wine Day: Celebrate making it through the 1st day of the workweek with a nice, relaxing glass of wine. Or if Monday isn’t the 1st day of your week, celebrate whatever good thing happened to you. Nothing good happened?! That seems unlikely, but just celebrate yourself. You deserve it!

Pluto Day: Clyde W. Tombaugh discovered Pluto on this date in 1930. At the time, everybody hailed the little celestial orb as the 9th planet. And so it remained for more than 70 years. Until one fateful day in 2006 when astronomers demoted Pluto to “dwarf planet.” But for this day we celebrate the discovery. Because after ripping away planet status we surely can’t deny Pluto a celebration of its discovery!

Battery Day: Celebrate the humble battery, without which our world would be a bit darker. Literally. Without batteries most of our flashlights wouldn’t shine! And a bit smaller, because without batteries our phones, laptops, tablets, etc. would be much less portable. Our mobility would be limited to the length of their power cords. (Fun fact: Back in “ancient” times our phones’ mobility actually was limited by their cords!). We celebrate this day on the birthday of Alessandro Volta, the man who first generated electricity with his “voltaic piles” (basically a very crude battery).

February 19:

Chocolate Mint Day: Celebrate the cool, refreshing richness of chocolate-mint. Indulge in your favorite chocolate-mint creation … maybe an Andes Mint, or a peppermint patty, or even chocolate-mint coffee! Or, for a no-calorie chocolate-mint sensation, try a lip balm, lotion, or toothpaste.

National Lash Day: Celebrate your eyelashes for this day! Many people enhance their natural lashes or wear false lashes to help themselves feel beautiful. But lashes are not just beauty accessories. They help slow moisture evaporation from our eyes and keep dust out of our eyes (but they’re not very good at keeping themselves out of our eyes!).

National Vet Girls ROCK Day: This day celebrates and recognizes women veterans. For most of our history women got little if any recognition of their service in the armed forces. Vet Girls ROCK formed to change that and offer support & resources to women veterans. 2019 is the 1st annual National Vet Girls ROCK Day.

February 20:

Love Your Pet Day: Of course you don’t need a special day to tell you to love your pets. It just comes naturally! But have you been showing them you love them as much as you’d like. Or have you been busy? Use this day to shower your pets with extra love & attention. They’ll eat it up! 💝

Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo Day: Tired of winter? Spring’s just a month away! Tom & Ruth Roy suggest you get ready for it by yelling “Hoodie-Hoo” outside at high noon (your time).

National Cherry Pie Day: After spending the day loving your pet and yelling at winter (or is that yelling for spring?) you need a treat. And cherry pie is definitely a treat! So enjoy a slice or 2 to celebrate the day. Buy one from your favorite bakery or try baking one yourself.

February 21:

National Sticky Bun Day: Mmmmmm … indulge in a sweet, gooey, sticky bun for breakfast. Or dessert. Or both! You know your mouth is watering just thinking about it … If you have some extra time, make a batch yourself.

National Grain-Free Day: This is a day to bring people who can’t eat grains for some reason back to the table with family & friends. Everyone will eat grain-free for the day! Siete Family Foods created the day just this year. And the company exists because one family of seven (siete) decided to all go grain-free when one member was forced to.

Great American Spit Out: A day encouraging military members to live tobacco-free lives. The day focuses specifically on smokeless tobacco and how to quit it.

February 22:

National Wildlife Day: The earth’s wildlife is in danger. Too many animals have already gone extinct. And many, many more are dangerously close to disappearing. Use this day to learn more about the dangers our wildlife face and how you can help. At the very least, help spread the word.

World Thinking Day: This day asks Girl Scouts & Girl Guides around the world to think about their places in the global community. And how they can make positive contributions to the world.

Skip the Straw Day: You may have heard that single-use plastics are polluting our earth. This day asks you to think twice before you grab that convenient, disposable plastic straw … and then don’t. For most of us it’s really not much of a hardship (you do know how to drink out of a glass without a straw, right?). But if you really need or want a straw, consider reusable straws, made of things like bamboo or stainless steel. Or even glass! Disposable paper straws are also getting better.

February 23:

National Dog Biscuit Day: Your dogs approve of this day & say it is for giving them as many treats as they want. Whenever they want them. You may or may not agree …

National Tile Day: Tile is a popular design element in many homes. Especially for floors, kitchen backsplashes, and bathroom walls (and floors!). So they get their very own day. If you’re building or remodeling a home, give tile serious consideration. If not, admire the tile in your home (or consider if it might be time to update it?).

Open That Bottle Night: Have you been saving a bottle of wine for a special occasion? Well it’s here! Gather family and friends, open the bottle, and enjoy good company & good wine. Add some good food and you’ve got the perfect evening.

Tootsie Roll Day: Celebrate the day Leo Hirshfield started selling Tootsie Rolls in Brooklyn, back in 1896.

February 24:

World Bartender Day: This day celebrates the maker of delightful potions, the pourer or stiff drinks, and the lender of sympathetic ears. The bartender is whatever you need him or her to be. So on this day customers shall thank their favorite bartenders. And bartenders shall salute their fellow bartenders. And if you happen to be in Australia, support your local The Perfect Blend finalist.

National Tortilla Chip Day: Munch on tortilla chips all day! Have ‘em with cheese or salsa or guacamole or … well, you get the idea. Have ‘em with whatever your taste buds desire! Right now my taste buds are desiring them as a base for a big plate of nachos!
