Celebration Ideas for June 22 – 28, 2020

We’re heading into the home stretch of June, and life is inching toward something that feels almost normal-ish.

With lots of beautiful (we hope!) days ahead of us, we’ll have plenty of opportunity for enjoyment. Even if some of it is a bit different than we expected.

And many of these celebrations don’t require crowds to enjoy anyway. Or even any other people at all in some cases!

So yes, do take a peek and plan your week. And make it a point each day to …

Enjoy!

Celebrate for the rest of June

Let’s focus on health & wellness. Because taking care of yourself physically and mentally makes it easier to enjoy the day!

Professional Wellness Month: If you’re finally back at work after months off—or back in the office after months of working at home—you may be more focused on getting things done than your wellness. Well, stop that! Taking care of yourself can actually help you get more done in the long run. Get some quick tips here. They’re mostly common sense things, but also things we often forget to do for ourselves when we get busy.

Women’s Golf Month: A lot of golf courses are still closed, but if yours is open get out there & golf! In years past many courses held special events for women, but we suspect there’s not too much of that happening this year. But don’t let that stop you from getting out & enjoying yourself.

Vision Research Month: If you thought we knew all there is to know about our eyes & vision, you’d be wrong! Doctors and researchers are still working hard to understand this important sense, what can go wrong, and how to treat vision problems.

Oral Health Month: Are you & your family doing all you can to keep your mouths healthy? Why not make sure for this month? You’ll either confirm you’re doing great or learn something new that could help.

Scoliosis Awareness Month: How much do you know about scoliosis? This is the month to learn more, whether you or someone you know has it or you want to know what to look for in your child. Because early detection can save a lot of pain later.

Weekly Celebrations for June’s 4th Week

This week we focus on insects, both attracting good ones & controlling less desirable ones. And we remind ourselves of lightning safety as thunderstorm season heats up.

Pollinator Week (June 22 – 28, 2020): At the end of National Pollinator Month we have Pollinator Week. Take some time to learn about all the different pollinators (some might surprise you!) and how you can help protect them. Maybe make your garden a pollinator haven?

National Insect Week (June 22 – 28, 2020): This is technically a UK celebration. But we believe we should celebrate and learn about insects wherever we are in the world. They’re much more important than you might realize. And since this year is a virtual event anyway, you have no excuse not to celebrate!

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 21 – 27, 2020): Of course not all insects are equally useful! As far as mosquitoes go, celebrating their control definitely seems like the way to go. Remember, it takes very little standing water for mosquitoes to breed!

Lightning Safety Awareness Week (June 21 – 27, 2020): Do you know how to stay safe from lightning? Although it’s possible to survive a lightning strike, it’s not a pleasant experience, and survivors may experience long-term problems. So it’s best to avoid getting hit. Make sure you know how to lessen your chances of getting hit.

Celebration Days coming up for June 22 thru June 28

This week we celebrate Beetles, the car and the band but not the insects. Well, technically beetles are pollinators, so we’re celebrating them for Pollinator Week …

Then we protect the rainforests, go canoing, and camp in our back yards. We thank HVAC techs for keeping us cool and logistics experts for keeping us supplied with the necessities of life.

We also munch on pralines & pecan sandies, support food trucks, and more.

How will you create a fun-tastic week for yourself?

June 22:

Stupid Guy Thing Day: Do stupid guy things. Or try to stop stupid guy things. Or just shake your head at stupid guy things. (If the stupid guy thing is actually dangerous, please reconsider doing it. Or try harder to stop it. We like our readers & would hate for anything to happen to you).

National HVAC Tech Day: It’s time to thank your HVAC technician for keeping your home cool in summer & warm in winter! And for coming out quickly when your system breaks down. Yes, we’d all be pretty miserable without these hardworking people.

World Rainforest Day: Rainforests are critical to life on Earth, no matter how far from one you live. The diversity of plants that make up the rainforests not only absorb carbon dioxide, they provide food & homes for a variety of animals. But they’re disappearing, making them less able to help us and our planet survive. So we need to help them continue helping us.

World Wide VW Beetle Day: Also known as Drive Your VW to Work Day, because that’s how many people celebrate it! So if you’ve got a Beetle, drive it to celebrate the 25th year of this fun day! And it doesn’t have to be to work. Drive it wherever you’re going.

National Chocolate Eclair Day: Start your day with a sweet, creamy chocolate eclair. Or end your day with one. Or have one as a snack. Or all of the above! As usual, you can certainly buy your sweet treat, but if you have the time & desire, make your delectable chocolate eclairs from scratch.

National Onion Rings Day: Order or make onion rings to go with lunch or dinner. If you need a recipe, try this one. If you’re not a fan of deep-frying, make baked onion rings instead!

June 23:

Pink Flamingo Day: Get ready to decorate your lawn with plastic pink flamingos! Even better “flock” your neighbor’s lawn. They’ll love it. Really! 😁

National Pink Day: Speaking of pink, the 23rd isn’t only about pink flamingos. It’s about everything pink! So wear pink, drink pink lemonade, eat salmon & shrimp, and just generally be tinkled pink about the whole day. Those pink flamingos are surely worth being tickled pink about?

National Eat at a Food Truck Day: This is a simple one! As long as there are food trucks in your area anyway. Just do as the name says. The absolute best way to celebrate is to do that for every meal. (You’ll have another chance to celebrate food trucks in a few days!).

National Hydration Day: Staying hydrated is especially important during the hot summer months. And even more so if you’re exercising in the heat. This day reminds us all to pay attention to drinking enough fluids. And keeping those electrolytes balanced too. In fact, this day honors a high school football coach who developed a mouth guard that released electrolytes into players mouths!

National Pecan Sandies Day: Nibble on nutty, melt-in-your-mouth pecan sandies all day. These cookies are also super easy to make yourself. Try this pecan sandies recipe if you’re in the mood for homemade!

June 24:

International Fairy Day: Go fairy spotting! Leaving them some gifts might entice them to visit.

National Parchment Day: On this day we all cook “en papillote” & line our baking sheets with parchment too. Of course, some cooks do this throughout the year. But if it’s not something you’re familiar with, this is the day to give it a try!

National Pralines Day: Here’s a celebration where you can put the parchment to good use! Make pralines! Of course you can also celebrate by simply enjoying some purchased pralines. 😋

June 25:

National Catfish Day: Get yourself some farm-raised catfish and prepare it your favorite way. Get lots of tasty catfish recipes here.

Global Beatles Day: Celebrate the Beatles (the band, not the insect!) on the anniversary of the day they performed All You Need is Love for a global audience. It was beamed live by satellite to 26 countries, the first time this had ever been done.

Leon Day: Celebrate the half-way mark in the countdown to Christmas! For crafters & other Christmas lovers, it’s now time to get serious about planning for the season. And making products for the fall craft fairs. Or just make a “snowman” out of sand, wear a Santa hat, or hang a few Christmas lights to celebrate. That last one is easiest if you never took yours down! 🙃

National Bomb Pop Day: When was the last time you had a Bomb Pop? Unless you have kids, it’s probably been a while. Well, whether it was last week or last decade, this is the day to enjoy one of these beautifully patriotic frozen treats.

National Strawberry Parfait Day: Here’s a sweet treat that’s a bit healthier than those Bomb Pops. Strawberry parfaits include fruit! So you can enjoy 2 sweet treats in one day without an ounce of guilt.

June 26:

National Canoe Day: Go canoing! Hopefully it’s a beautiful day for you so you can spend it enjoying yourself on the water.

Take Your Dog to Work Day: For a lot of people this has been every day while working at home! And if you’re still doing that, then this day is pretty easy to celebrate. Otherwise, find out if your workplace will allow it & plan to bring your pooch on a little adventure for the day.

National Food Truck Day: Yes, this is the 2nd food truck-related day this week. First there was Eat at a Food Truck Day. And now it’s just plain Food Truck Day. But the concept is the same. Support your local food trucks & buy your food from them for the day! Lots of food trucks offer special deals in honor of the day. The official website for the day hasn’t been updated for 2020 as of this writing. Hopefully it will be before the day. But even if it’s not, support your local food truck. They need it.

Bar Code Day: Ah, the bar code. That simple little square of black & white lines. It made checking out more efficient (usually!). And it makes self-checkout possible, and these days one less person touching your purchases is a good thing! But they didn’t always exist. It wasn’t until June 26, 1974 that the very first bar coded item was scanned a store in Ohio. It was a package of Wrigley’s gum.

National Chocolate Pudding Day: Pudding is a quick & simple dessert. Or way to satisfy a sweet tooth. And for this day only chocolate pudding will do. And of course, homemade, from-scratch chocolate pudding tastes best! But we won’t judge if you buy your pudding or use the powdered stuff.

National Coconut Day: Mmmm … coconut! Use coconut in all your cooking for the day! And celebrate coconut and chocolate pudding with … what else? … chocolate coconut pudding! Get lots more coconut recipe ideas here, from fish to soups to drinks & desserts (of course). And of course we can’t forget the piña colada.

June 27:

National PTSD Awareness Day: We’ve learned a lot about PTSD over the years. But it’s still a scary and often lonely condition, especially for those who feel they need to hide it. If you or someone you know has symptoms of PTSD, please learn more and find help.

Great American Campout: Whether or not campgrounds near you are open you can celebrate this one as long as you have a yard. Because it was originally called the Great American Backyard Campout. So go camping in your back yard!

“Happy Birthday to You” Day: Celebrate the song almost everybody knows, has sung at least once, and has had sung to them. It is, of course, that birthday staple, Happy Birthday to You! But the tune was originally written to go with a “good morning” song in the classroom.

Summersgiving: It’s Thanksgiving in June! Prepare a feast & enjoy.

National Sunglasses Day: Remember to protect your eyes when you go outside. Make sure your sunglasses block both UVA and UVB for the most protection. Anti-reflective & polarized lenses will help you see better, too.

National Onion Day: Onions make meats, salads, and really pretty much anything savory taste better. So they definitely deserve a day of honor, and this is it! Add onions—cooked or raw—to every meal to celebrate.

National Ice Cream Cake Day: After you’ve gotten creative with onions, and before you head out to the yard to camp, indulge in a big slice of ice cream cake. The day honors a Wellington, FL woman who celebrated her birthday, June 27, every year with ice cream cake.

June 28:

Log Cabin Day: Spending the day, or even the whole weekend, in a log cabin sounds perfect right about now! If you can manage it, why not plan to do that. (Shoot, we’d like to spend the rest of the year in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere!).

National Logistics Day: Logistics is all about getting raw materials, finished products, and more where they need to go on schedule. And it can be a delicate balance, as we learned when some of the cogs in this big wheel slowed & even stopped earlier this year. But the people in charge revamped their logistics plans & got things moving again. So the 2nd annual Logistics Day seems like a timely celebration.

Tau Day: Celebrate the circle constant! Wait, what? Isn’t that pi? And didn’t we celebrate it back on March 14? Yes, we did celebrate pi then. But those who celebrate Tau Day instead (apparently you’ll have to choose one or the other!) say pi is wrong. (We say pie can never be wrong! 😉).

International Body Piercing Day: If you have body piercings, want body piercings, or are just curious about body piercings, this day is for you. Find deals on body piercings, learn more about them (and the safety standards in the industry), and schedule your next (or first) body piercing.

National Paul Bunyan Day: Celebrate the folklore hero Paul Bunyan and his faithful companion Babe, the big blue ox. This legendary pair created the Grand Canyon & the Great Lakes! Ok, probably not, but the stories sure are fun!
